Another Great Parade Performance Assisted By the National Guard! A very cool Fourth of July, and the Chapter was out in full force along with our friends from the Wisconsin National Guard! It is always a pleasure working with SSG Greenwood and this year volunteers from the 1158th Transportation Company, Beloit, Wisconsin.
The paperwork was a little late to be able to compete as a float, something that I and SSG Greenwood are already working to correct for next year. The HET came complete with tied down HUMV, so we didn't have to challenge the HET with the Kubelwagen! However the Kubelwagen brought up the rear with two of my grandkids and the Chairman riding "Tommy Gun"!
We were not the only military unit in the parade this year! A Color Guard from Great Lakes Naval Training Center led the parade. This year we started off the parade with everyone singing the National Anthem. There were more horse units in the parade this year along with several bands performing on flat beds. The National Guard soldiers and the walking members of the Chapter, passed out candy and patriotic items to the children watching! I heard the comment several times that "the parade is almost better than Halloween!".
